It’s no secret that exercising outdoors is better than staying inside an air-conditioned room. While taking a jog around your subdivision or at your local park is good for you, a new study presented at the British Psychological Society Annual Conference suggests that you’ll feel even better when you exercise near the sea.
Studying data from 2,750 English participants, researchers Katherine Ashbullby and Dr. Mathew White from the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, and the School of Psychology, University of Plymouth, were able to figure out which environments would benefit health buffs the most.
Being outdoors reportedly brings out mostly positive feelings from people. But between exercising in the park and exercising by the sea, the study authors say that the seaside is your better option. Even after considering the participants’ age, travel exposure, and other similarly relevant factors, researchers still came up with the same result.
Luckily, there is no shortage of beaches in the Philippines. Even if you’re in Metro Manila, Manila Bay is not that far away. So the next time you're gearing up for a run, consider going to the seaside.
