Having a smart phone is definitely an asset. It allows you to stay on top of your tasks, but may prove detrimental to your health. According to Science Daily, spending too much time tinkering with your mobile device may prevent you from living a healthy lifestyle.
Researchers Jacob Barkley and Andrew Lepp from the Kent State University surveyed 300 college students on their cell phone usage and physical activities, 49 of whom were tested for fitness. They found that students who used their phone for an average of 14 hours a day were not as physically fit as those who only used them for 90 minutes a day.
Spending too much time with your mobile device may cause you to become less active, which is bad for your health. After all, previous studies have shown that sitting around all day may eventually lead to obesity and increase your risk of diabetes.
So instead of spending your free time playing Candy Crush, why not get up and get moving? Your phone may help you manage your life, but it can’t help you manage your health.
