While obesity is a growing problem worldwide, it’s not exactly insurmountable either. According to a recent study by researchers from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston, there are many people who started out overweight but have successfully slimmed themselves down.

This is not wishful thinking. Looking at the data of 4,021 participants aged 20 and above, researchers found that of the 63 percent who were trying to lose weight, 40 percent were able to successfully drop pounds, losing 5 percent of their body weight. Meanwhile, 20 percent were able to lose 10 percent of their body weight or more.

What was their secret? The answer may come as a surprise. According to the participants, they simply ate less and exercised more. They also said that they drank lots of water and ate less fatty foods. Forget about complicated diet regimens that only seem to confuse rather than be of help. Apparently, trendy weight loss strategies like 30-day cleanses and weight loss pills aren’t the most effective methods to losing weight.

This is certainly good news for everyone who is trying to shed pounds. Not only are these methods cost-effective, but they're also pretty simple to follow. So if you want to lose weight, try sticking to low-calorie foods. Spend more time working a sweat. Lose pounds the old-fashioned way, and reap the best results.
