1Organic cold-pressed veggie and fruit juices have been making waves for the past few years and juicing companies in the US are stepping up the game. According to Business Insider, they are adding activated charcoal in the juices to amplify the body's detoxification process, improve skin condition, and cure hangovers.

This concept is not new though. Ancient Greeks and Egyptians in the 19th century ingested the black stuff as an antidote AND multi-purpose poison. At present, we use it as an emergency treatment for poisoning, and genius juicing companies are now using it to flush out toxins.

Activated charcoal claims to lower blood cholesterol, eliminate body odor and bad breath, remove teeth stain, and reduce gas bloating (flatter tummy, perhaps?). It is also said to be a mood booster and a hangover and jetlag cure. But before you head on to the health store to grab some activated charcoal, be wary that there is no scientific research to back up these claims.
