Medical News Today reports that fruits and vegetables contain high levels of nutrients, phytochemicals, and antioxidants that may act as effective anti-cancer agents.

In a study initially published in
The Journal of Nutrition, researchers from the University of Hawaii Cancer Center analyzed data on 185,885 older adults from a previous Multiethnic Cohort Study to see the connection of certain factors, including diet, to bladder cancer.

The results showed that women seemed to get anti-cancer benefits from eating fruits and vegetables. Those who had the highest consumption of yellow-orange vegetables had a 52 percent lower risk of developing bladder cancer, while those who had high intake of vitamins A, C, and E were least likely to contract the disease.

Together with a clean lifestyle and ample exercise, eating fruits and vegetables may help beef up your body's natural defenses against disease.
