When people tell you that you can’t do something on account of your age, remember that you don’t have to take their word for it (unless, of course, it’s your doctor or your lawyer). Just take a look at the 90-year-old woman who, according to the Daily Mail, actually skydived with her two grown sons for her birthday! Now, we're not telling you to jump at 13,000 feet in the air; but we're saying that it's actually OK to let go of your inhibitions every once in a while. Here, we present 10 things you're never too old to do:
1. You’re never too old to go back to school.
Eva Longoria proved this when she announced her intentions to take up a Master’s Degree in Chicano Studies back in 2009. Having successfully earned her degree just a few months ago, the Texas native cheerfully writes this on the microblogging site WhoSay. “You’re never too old or too busy to continue your education!” What better encouragement could you ask for?
2. You’re never too old to change your career.
Here’s a bit of local real-life inspiration for you: Before Tonette Flores opened Sophie’s Mom in July 2011, she was working at an IT company, according to Inquirer.net. At that time, she was already a mom to three kids, so the change in career was arguably a gutsy one. But it’s a decision that most certainly paid off, don’t you think?
3. You’re never too old to find true love.
Just because the world expects you to get a boyfriend at age 20 and settle down by age 30 doesn’t mean you can’t take your sweet time finding your soul mate. The late Elizabeth Taylor married eight different men over a span of 41 years and even married one of those eight guys twice!
4. You’re never too old to travel the world.
Jeff and Tamara were 50 years old when they decided to travel, not just to one country, but around the world. In an interview with Nomadic Matt, Jeff recounts the story of how he and his wife quit their jobs, put their house up for rent, and traveled all around South America, Europe, China, Southeast Asia, and Egypt.
5. You’re never too old to learn how to dance.
Barring medical reasons (having two left feet doesn’t count), no one can stop you from taking dancing lessons or from trying to teach yourself to move those hips via YouTube. Besides, the older you get, the more you need the exercise anyway.
6. You’re never too old to indulge your inner child.
From time to time, it’s nice to sit down with your kids and watch Adventure Time or go to the amusement park as a family and have just as much fun (if not more) than everyone else. After all, everyone--and we mean everyone--needs to de-stress from adult life.
7. You’re never too old to flash a little skin.
You might have to retire your micro mini at some point in your life, but a little skin never hurt anyone. Don’t be afraid to show a little leg or a little cleavage; it’s good to keep the men wanting.
8. You’re never too old to break hearts.
Sharon Stone became the subject of many a man’s fantasy when Basic Instinct first came out, but more than two decades later, she’s still breaking hearts. In fact, Conan O’Brien says she's still being pursued by a lot of young men. All we can say is, go Sharon!
9. You’re never too old to become famous.
Laura Ingalls Wilder was best known for writing her Little House series, but according to The Huffington Post, she didn’t publish her first book until she was 65 years old! That’s a long time to put your dreams on hold, but as they say, it’s better late than never.
10. You’re never too old to change your style.
In Harper’s Bazaar’s Great Style, Marc Jacobs was quoted as saying, “I don’t know if I really understand the idea of dressing for one’s age. All you need is confidence, comfort, and the pleasure of dressing.” The man has spoken; enough said!
