1. Accept your shortcomings.
When things go down the drain, it’s always tempting to run away from the following fall-out, but facing your problems and accepting your shortcomings is actually the first thing you should do to change things. Be honest with yourself. Acceptance is the start of healing.
2. Find out what went wrong.
Set aside your biases and emotions for the time being. Whether you’re facing a personal or a professional complication, study it with neutrality and see exactly where things went awry. Once you know what happened, you can focus on fixing the issue.
3. Create solutions.
There are problems that seem to be hopeless, and it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed when the hurdles are too high. You can always ask for help, but on your own, know that you are never helpless. There are always ways to fix things, even if they’re too complicated.
Solutions come in all shapes and forms. Some may not even feel like solutions: There are those that hurt you even more, and those that require letting go of people and things that you love. However, it’s always important to prioritize what’s right and what matters the most. Start small and slow. The process may take a while, but you’ll eventually get there.
4. Improve on your weaknesses.
You’ve managed to face yourself and your situation, and now, you can build on what you’ve learned. Work on your weaknesses. Strengthen your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual foundations whether it’s through a fitness routine, going back to school, sharing your experiences with others, or turning to prayer. After that, you can focus on creating a new situation for yourself based on what you’ve been through.
5. Don’t lose confidence.
There will be times when things seem hopeless, and you’ll feel that whatever improvements you’ve done do not worth much. Trust in yourself and your strength. You know better now, and so you can do better. Whether it’s moving on from a tragedy or forging on new path, you’ll continue to meet obstacles, but these are only detours to your real destination.
6. Bounce back with a vengeance.
As the saying goes, whatever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. You’re armed with what you’ve learned, and are much wiser that you’ve been before. You may have emotional scars to show for, but always do your best to avoid being cynical. The world still has so many opportunities to offer you. Greet change with openness.
