Chia seeds are known for their superfood abilities. These tiny seeds are packed with calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, manganese, phosphorous, and protein. They're a staple in healthy diet-friendly recipes because they make you full faster sans the unnecessary calories. But before you head out to the nearest health store to stock up on chia seeds, read this alarming report first from Prevention.com.
The Centers for Disease and Prevention Control issued a warning to the public about specific products with chia powder made from chia seeds being taken off the shelves because of possible salmonella contamination. In 12 US states alone, there have been 21 salmonella contamination cases reported, with two leading to hospitalization. Similar unfortunate incidents were also found in Canada.
While no such announcement has been made in the Philippines as of press time, it might be a good idea to cross the following imported products off your grocery list until the issue has been resolved.
