A lot of people have spent their teenage years struggling with the concept of self-confidence. The bad news is, unless you're able to fight these insecurities, they usually last well into your 20s. By the time you hit 30, however, that's when things start to calm down (well, more or less). You care less about what people think and more about what makes you happy. It also helps that by this time, most people are more stable—emotionally and financially.


As with a lot of things in life, being at peace with who you are comes with age...but that age isn't in your 30s, apparently. It's not even in your 40s or 50s. According to a study published in Psychological Bulletin, your self-esteem peaks from ages 60 to 70 years old.

The study defined "self-esteem" as "a person's subjective evaluation of his or her worth as a person." Once you hit 70, your self-esteem tapers off but the study thinks this decline is "benign."

Before you start stressing over the finding that you aren't going to be living your best life until you're 60, let's keep in mind that self-esteem and confidence aren't static traits. There are plenty of things you can do to boost both in your everyday life. Let's start living like we're 60!
