Happiness doesn’t always have to be complicated. Just look at how kids immediately light up at the mention of ice cream or how people can’t get enough of funny cat videos online.

According to Dr Glenn Williams, senior lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, it’s the small things that actually make a difference. In an interview with Express, he says that “an effective route to happiness is not necessarily through experiencing major events that we might have planned out such as getting married, moving house, getting that all-important promotion, or even being on a holiday.”
