The condition of your nails says a lot about you. If your nails are dirty or damaged, they can totally ruin your outfit. Changing your nail polish almost every week or biting your nails constantly can also cause them to split, peel and turn brittle. But don’t worry! Peeling Nails
Imagine this: you’re driving on the road when you suddenly spot a slightly peeled area on your fingertips. Don’t hit the brakes and squeal—peeled nails can be treated! First things first, go to a dermatologist. Peeling or damaged nails can be the cause of fungal infection or psoriasis (a condition characterized by scaly patches on the skin). If it’s not that serious, you can avoid peeling nails by keeping them trimmed to avoid getting the edges caught in clothes or other material. Weak Nails
According to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD), taking a biotin supplement might help strengthen weak nails. Biotin is a B vitamin found in liver, cauliflower, salmon, carrots and other foods. The suggested prescription is to take two to three mgs a day for six months, but it’s still best to consult a doctor first.

Yellowish Nails

Are your nails turning yellow cause of the constant swipe and wipe of your favorite red-colored, glittery nail polish? Aside from giving your nails a break from the matte or gel polish, you can treat your nails to a mini-spa session right in the comfort of your own home. All you need are water, lemon, peroxide and baking soda. New Orleans dermatologist Deirdre O'Boyle Hooper, MD suggests you lightly buff your nails and soak them for five to 10 minutes in lemon juice or a mixture of two parts peroxide and one part baking soda. But remember, if it doesn’t work, it’s best to consult a dermatologist (better safe than sorry!)

Brittle Nails
Brittle nails can be caused by trauma, such as repeated wetting and drying, repeated exposure to detergents and water, and excessive exposure to harsh solvents, such as those found in nail polish remover—problems easily remedied by wearing gloves or keeping exposure to a minimum. But if your nails are already brittle, there are some things you can do instead of paying for (a most likely expensive) treatment at the salon. You can soak your fingertips in a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice; fine sea salt with 2 drops each of lemon juice or oil, frankincense oil, myrrh oil and wheat germ oil mixture or beer, olive oil and apple cider vinegar mixture.
