1. Caffeine
Opting for caffeine over sleep throws off our natural sleep cycle which causes our body to get tired more easily during the day. Joyce A. Walsleben, PhD, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the NYU School of Medicine and author of A Woman's Guide to Sleep: Guaranteed Solutions for a Good Night's Rest, suggests switching to decaffeinated varieties of your favorite beverages (that includes coffee, tea, softdrinks, and chocolate!)
2. Too Much or Too Little Exercise
"Exercise energizes us physically, mentally, and emotionally," says Debi Silber, MS, RD, president of Lifestyle Fitness Inc. in New York. "Without it, we're naturally more sluggish.” Exercise also releases a "feel-good" chemical that increases energy levels. But be careful when exercising, overdoing your workout can deplete your energy reserves, break down muscle, and can suppress the immune system. (Yikes!)
3. Attitude and Low Self-Esteem
Being too nega and a crowd-pleaser may be two totally different things, but they both cause unnecessary exhaustion that will surely zap your energy. "It takes so much energy to wear a mask to the world...so that others will like you," says confidence coach Kathleen Hassan, co-author of Square Peg in a Round Hole. "It is exhausting and leaves you feeling utterly powerless."
