According to Science Undersecretary Graciano Yumul, the reason why Ondoy was so destructive was because it hit Metro Manila and the population exacerbated the devastation.
On their website, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that, as of 4:00 AM today, Chedeng was located East of Catarman, Northern Samar, and is expected to move West Northwest. Another report from PAGASA says that Metro Manila can expect moderate to strong winds, while the provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Samar will experience stormy weather. And, as of 10:23 AM, PAGASA has just upgraded tropical storm Chedeng to typhoon status.
