The Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) has recently named FN columnist Janet Nepales as one of the recipients of the 100 Most Influential Filipino American Women in the United States Award. The award honors women who have changed, influenced and inspired people in their respective communities. "They are powerful examples of women doing extraordinary work who will motivate our youth and future leaders," says Dr. Mutya San Agustin Shaw of the FWN 100 Nationwide Search and Selection Committee.

The Los Angeles-based journalist, who writes for many distinguished publications, was proclaimed Journalist of the Year by Celebrity Chronicle in 2005, Journalist of the Month by Asian PR-Wire, and Outstanding Alumna in Multi-Media by the QCHS Alumni Association in 2008. She is also the first and only Filipina member in the long and prestigious history of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a non-profit group of international journalists behind the Golden Globe Awards as well as many philanthropic causes (the HFPA just approved a $25,000 donation to UNICEF Philippines early this year).

Among all her accolades, Janet’s best work, however, may be reflected in the journalism students at her alma mater Quezon City High School (QCHS), where she has been handing out scholarships since 2007. The recipients of the Janet Susan Rodriguez Nepales Journalism Awards are selected by the school and include those who have won writing contests for the school papers The Capitol (English) and Ang Parola (Tagalog). Through her continuous support, many aspiring journalists now have the opportunity to make their dreams a reality.

Janet’s contributions—to both the industry and her community—are truly inspiring. As one of the 100 most influential Fil-Am women in the US, she brings honor to journalists and women everywhere. The gala awards celebration will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco. For more information, visit FWN's official website here.
