It seems like the infamous ‘laglag bala’ modus is about to make a comeback at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after two unsuspecting senior citizens who were supposed to fly to the US fell victim to the extortion scheme this week.
Salvacion Cortabista and her husband Esteban, both in their seventies were apprehended by airport officials after a bullet was allegedly found in the former’s bag, Manila Bulletin reported.
The elderly couple denied any knowledge of the .38-caliber bullet found in their possession, saying they totally had no idea how the bullet got into Salvacion’s bag
The bullet was apparently detected at the final x-ray scanner.
Emy, daughter of the couple questioned how her parents’ luggage passed previous x-ray scans without the bullet being detected.
Despite contestation, they were not allowed to board their flight as authorities were still investigating the incident.
The ‘laglag bala’ modus became a big thing last year after numerous victims, including foreigners complained of allegedly being extorted by airport personnel due to the scheme.
