The scorching heat of the sun plus the numerous sale promotions on swimwear, flip-flops, and sunglasses in malls has made it clear that we are indeed in the warmest season of the year. Teens are prepping for barkada road trips since classes are now over and moms are equally busy planning family outings. Of course, swimming is on top of everyone's list of summer activities, but aren't you tired of doing the same thing every year? Don't you want to make this summer different by not stressing yourself out over packing and heading out-of-town? We've got you covered with some fun activities that will make your family’s summer unforgettable, even without visiting your favorite (and let's face it, probably crowded) resort.
1. Make popsicles (preferably, colorful ones!)
We love the summer heat, but we have to admit that it gets unbearable at times. Aside from water balloon fights and the goodness of ice-cold lemonade, another way to beat the heat is with the glory of popsicles. It's also a good bonding activity with your kids. Drop by the nearest grocery store to get some funky molds and different fruit juices for popsicles of many flavors and colors.
Baking with the family is a great opportunity for special bonding time. The kids are on vacation, so everyone's hands are on deck for your baking sessions. Encourage the family, especially the kids, to be creative and to express themselves through their baked creations. Summer is a good time to make goodies such as brownies, lemon squares (or scones, whichever you find cuter), and ice cream sandwiches. For the sandwiches, chocolate cookie ice cream is highly recommended. Who doesn't love chocolate?
3. Do a closet cleanup
Time to get rid of the clutter you have gathered in those months of school and work. Organize your closet by taking out what has to be disposed, donated, or sold. Arrange your clothes according to categories of your choice—color, brand, type … maybe even sleeve length? Don't let your closet be another burden to bear when the busy months of school come again.
4. Learn Zumba
Zumba has indeed grown in popularity in recent years. This type of group exercise involving dancing and a bit of aerobics has captured the interest of many Filipinos, from men and women, to tweens, and even kids. Enroll in a Zumba class, make new friends, and start sweating off those unwanted pounds. Burning calories instead of your skin? Sign me up!
5. Get a part-time job—be an e-Educator (Online English Educator)
Earn while having fun this summer by getting a part-time job. If you think you have good English proficiency, then you could apply as an e-Educator at 51Talk Philippines, the premier online English school in China and the Philippines. You can earn up to Php70,000 as a home-based ESL teacher. To find out more about 51Talk, check out their website here.
