It’s the season of Lent and almost summer—the times when a lot of people try to cut back on meat. It’s not an easy feat for those who consider themselves as carnivores, though, as food without meat is perceived to be less filling.
However, the staff of Chaplin in Century Mall Makati have proven that it’s not just about the ingredients on the plate, but also how the dish is prepared. Here are four of their meatless offerings that are both yummy and satisfying.
1. Home FriesThese potato wedges with alfredo and sweet and chili sauce are great for a quick bite that will fill your tummy. Better do a bit of walking after though, as these delicious babies are fried, and fried potatoes tend to absorb oil.
2. Shakshouka
Shakshouka is a Tunisian dish of poached eggs in tomato sauce spiced with chili peppers and onions, and served on a hot plate. Mozzarella cheese can also be added into the mix, which makes it a great dip for breads.
3. Eggplant Melanzane
Eggplant Melanzane, which seems to be a derivative of parmigiana di melanzane, is a dish of beautifully sliced and layered eggplants filled with tomato sauce mixed with herbs and cheese. It has a rich, full-bodied taste that makes it a definite addition to any comfort food list.
4. Chaplin Pizza
A specialty in Chaplin, this thin crust pizza has the Mediterranean touch of shakshouka sauce topped with eggs, mozzarella, and drizzled with pesto sauce. It may look light and appetizing, but it’s actually a very filling dish that’s enough to last you the whole afternoon.
