career concerns help!
« on: July 26, 2019, 01:13:02 pm »
Hi po ask po ako ng opinion anyone who is working on IT industry?

Im working in It industry programmer for 10 yrs but nagresign ako sa work. Kasi I just gave birth this year kayalang wala magaalaga ng baby ko and ayaw ko [textspeak!] sya ipaalaga sa yaya kasi alagain stage pa sya so nag stop ako magwork.

So para hindi mastop ang career ko nag take ako ng masters degree  every weekend and  2 yrs course sya.

If i finished my mba after 2 years at medyo malaki na baby ko pwede ko na sya maipaalaga sa iba.

My dilemma is may tatanggap pa kaya sakin knowing na 2 yrs ago pa ako last nag work? kamusta naman kaya ang compensation pay?

Any career advice po sana may sumagot sa dilemma ko thanks in advance.

^ hi sis. same tayo industry and work. marami akong friends who took time off from work to take care of their kids, even longer than 2 years. so that would not be an issue.

maganda yang decision mo to take on further studies. pampabango ng resume habang wala kang work. i'm sure may kahihinatnan naman ang magiging effort mo diyan.

pagbalik mo ng work, it will not matter whether you took a break. most likely your employer prospects will look into your experience. if the job you're applying for matches your experience and skills (esp additional skills you will have gained from your mba), then no reason to turn you down.

although, be prepared rin for some instances wherein your mba might not even carry any merit. for example, dev ka for 10 years. pagbalik mo apply ka diretso pm pero wala kang previous experience even to lead a team or to manage a project. baka di ka tanggapin simply because wala kang experience.

as for compensation, as normal they would probably base from your previous salary  + current market value. i'm sure you can get a proper salary when the time comes.

thank you thank you sis! naku kahit balik dev basta same ng previous salary happy nako. hirap naman kasi kung paalaga ko baby ko sa iba tapos hindi maalagaan ng maayos mapapa leave din ako sa work so yung focus ko wala talaga magiging bad impression pa siya sa company kung mapabayaan ko work.

secondly kaya ako nagmasteral lam mo naman ang field ng it medyo toxic kung matanda na tayo syempre atleast may fallback pwede ako magturo pag senior years. thanks so much po :-)

Hi sis, hindi ba kaya na mag part time ka ng ibang field while being a full time mom? Para may time ka sa baby mo but you are still earning somehow. If you want to become a part time financial advisor, maybe I can help.

i think possible pa rin na makahanap ka ng work na same level and salary. it's good na you're taking MBA para may growth and development ka pa rin skills-wise. i think recruiters and hiring managers naman would understand kasi family yan, one of the acceptable reasons siya for most. now, ang concern ko lang is with all the new technologies coming out, kailangan mo pa rin ma-practice ang IT skills mo kahit papano, kung hindi baka kalawangin ka. example ko lang yung former manager ko, she used to be an ABAP resource pero sabi niya feeling niya di niya na kayang mag-debug kasi sobrang tagal na daw na wala siyang practice. since nag take siya ng people manager role hindi na siya nag technical and hindi na siya  confident sa technical skills niya. not saying it will, but it might be a risk for you. as a compromise, maybe you can do a bit of freelancing homebased work din pag may free time ka para lang ma-practice yung skills.
