Writing Novels/Stories as Career

I wonder if it is possible to write as a career? How does it work? Do you do it the traditional way or do you self-publish? Is this a viable source of income?

Hi Sis, I'm a Journalism Graduate pero eto, hindi ko pinursue yung field ko kasi though gusto ko ang writing. TO be practical hindi sapat ang salary ng mga writers satin kaya kung susuriin mo yubng iba ay may part time job pa.

i'm not really discouraging you. Ang akin lang, hindi sya sasapat bilang iyong fulltime job. Mahirap buhay sa pinas sis, alam mo yan hehe.

TS, ang alam ko din nga writers are not paid well. Not to discourage you, Pero I read somewhere Writing a book normally ginagawa kapag retired na or as a hobby. Sabi din nila, parang painter or artist, mas sikat or yumayaman once they pass away.

But sis, try mo ipursue script writing, or for ads/commercial? Baka mas may money doon? Baka may GTer dito na taga channel 2/5/7.

Hindi naman as full-time job. I was thinking of it as a hobby-turned as another source of income. I love writing stories and I have a circle of friends who share the same passion. I've been reading that there are lots of self-published authors now. I'm just not sure if it panned-out well for them.

Alam mo sis, if you have passion for it, go! You enjoy it naman pala and you have other means of earning. Why not di ba?

Pangarap ko rin po yan! When I graduated, I worked in an advertising agency pero one year lang ang tinagal ko don, maliit na ad agency lang kasi yun and mostly print ads lang ang ginagawa. Sa pag-aapply ko noon, I realized hindi ganon kadali ang magkaron ng magandang career sa writing pero ngayong panahon na ito mas maganda ang opportunity. Hindi pa rin pag full time, I guess pero tamang pang extra income na. We can make our own flatform through blogging, may mga pocketbooks din na nag-aaccept ng stories, at kung suswertihin kapag sumikat ang story sa Wattpad may chance na maging movie or TV series yung story mo. Kaya never lose hope po. Good luck sa atin!

I started writing children's stories and books when I was pregnant. These were short narratives (4-5 pages each) that told about schoolboys and schoolgirls, naughty children and their parents, homework and errands, etc.). Later, I finished the course on Udemy: How to Write Children's Stories and Get Published. And after that I started writing science fiction for kids (imaginary schools on Mars and Moon, scientific centers where kids were in charge of the new discouveries and the like).

hi sis actually gusto ko rin itong gawing sideline hehe being a hopeless romantic (naks hahaha) na addict talaga ako dati sa pocketbooks and now sa wattpad.

nakakatuwa ang wattpad kasi ang daming amateur writers and ang gagaling nila gumawa ng stories at ang gaganda din ng mga stories. ang maganda pa sa wattpad, you can earn na rin kasi may ads na siya pag madami ka ng tagasubaybay. may mga accounts na nga din doon ang mga writers ng precious hearts kasi feeling ko kailangan na rin nilang makipagsabayan sa new gen eh wala na masyadong nabili ng pocketbooks.

i already have a story in mind and I started writing na din kaso chapter 1 pa lang hahaha. soon, hopefully sis matapos ko siya.

Writing was my passion, too. I remember how badly I wanted to have my own column in The Philippine Star, and eventually publish my own book. But I ended up working in the BPO for six years and stopped writing. But in 2010, I quit and began freelancing. That's when I pursued a writing career. Pay was good; I was getting a lot of clients while doing what I enjoy. I was writing everyday - blog post, web page copy, product description, you name it. I definitely got better with writing, but the daily demands killed my creativity. After five years, I was done. I'd get anxiety looking at a blank Word doc. I couldn't start anything. So I stopped to take a break. It has been six years since, I still couldn't feel that itch to write again. Maybe I'll go back to writing again; maybe I won't. If not, I'll always look back to that certain point in my life when I was living my dream 🙂

Wow! I wanted to write children's stories (also wrote a few these past few years) but it's really difficult to write for children.

My friends and I self-published two anthologies years ago and It's really difficult to market books especially when we wanted to remain anonymous.
