Solo Parent Welfare Act
« on: May 11, 2012, 04:18:51 pm »
Hi Sisses!! I didn't know about this until it was tweeted by GMA news. Being a single parent, I would like to take advantage of the scholarship program mention in this act. Anyone familiar on how do I go about this? Familiar kaya ang mga school about this act?

^you can try looking but dont get your hopes up. studying in a private school is actually a privilege, not a right sis. that's why there are public schools to cater to the rights of people to be educated.

if the school is your problem then you can try looking for other public schools that would fit your criteria of a "good enough" school. hindi naman lahat panget. nag public school din ako at ok naman ako.

Hi, just sharing with you the Solo Parent Act. I remember discussing about this in our company before to support the Solo Moms in my department. Sad  to say not all companies are updated. Check with your HR department about the Employee Guidelines. You may give them a copy for their perusal.

Thanks for sharing sis. Yes that's true, not all companies know this Act. I don't know why they have not given emphasis on this Act before. Madami na ding single parents ngayon. Oh, and I've also heard that there are amendments.

"Aside from housing and educational benefits, qualified solo parents may also avail of the following:
10% discount on children’s clothing materials
15% discount on baby’s milk, food and food supplement
15% discount on all purchases of medicine for children (5 years old and below)"

I have been made aware of this when a colleague applied for a solo parent's leave.  This is a leave of seven (7) days per year which is non-deductible from the employee's leave credits.

She showed me her solo parent's ID.   I searched the net and found that a solo parent can apply for a Solo Parent Identification Card (Solo Parent ID) from the City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office. The comprehensive package of services for solo parents includes livelihood, self-employment and skills development, employment-related benefits, psychosocial, educational, health and housing services.

To get a Solo Parent ID, the parent needs to present:

a. Barangay certificate residency in the area
b. Documents /evidence that the applicant is a solo parent (e.g. death certificate of spouse, declaration of nullity of marriage, medical certificate (if incapacitated)
c. ITR or certification for the barangay/municipal treasurer

For more information on solo parent ID, visit the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) website FAQs regarding the Solo Parent ID.
