Takot parin ako mag purchase online.  At never ko rin na try sa mga restaurants. But I always did thru phone in buying airline tickets (PAL and CebuPac) So far got no problems pa naman...Pero hindi ko naman winiwish na magka problema...h'wag naman..

Good idea nga pala ang mag pa photocopy!  Hmm sige bukas gagawin ko kaagad eto. Thanks

one sad irony of self is that we always know what's right for others...while there are certain wrong things we pursue on our own.

pansin ko dito sa pinas, some ask for ID, some don't. Sa dinami daming beses ko ginamit ang CC ko dito, only ONE establishment asked for my id :( scary

I purchased recently online for ipod shuffle. The next day, the cc company called me to verify if I did purchase online from Apple.

Pero yung phone purchase, hindi nagbi-verify ang bank kung talagang nag purchase ka.  ???

Use Debit Cards instead -- Union Bank's EON stuff is pretty nifty. and umm... secure. :)

grabe this happened na to me thrice!

1st time was 2 or 3 years ago, my BPI card was charged a hotel bill in Hong Kong, pero I didn't go to HK anytime that year.

2nd and 3rd time was just recently. I got my bill from AmEx and saw that I was charge $350++ by ticketmaster.com. I called AmEx and asked for more info about the charge. My god, di ako babayad ng $350 for Eric Clapton tickets!

After that, I saw another charge in my next bill. Software Developer yung name ng merchant for $19. File na naman ako ng dispute.

This really irks me because it's such a hassle to file disputes for these things. And instead na babayad ka ng maayos, you keep making calls pa to verify and contest the transaction.

Kaya my advice, if you wanna shop online, use PayPal if you pay by cc.

The latest info how our critical data is taken -- is that the magnetic hotel cards contain the room no.  our name as well as our credit card data.  Some hotels ask for the return of the cards upon check out.  The danger lies in there if the data is not overwritten immediately -- someone can simply bring these home and scan the data thereon.  It is said that when asked for the return of the magnetic hotel room cards -- refuse, as in refuse.  It is unlawful pala for the hotel to insist on the return of the hotel room cards.

wow thanks for this tip! i always return the hotel cards pa naman.  i didn't know the CC info is also encoded on the hotel cards.

for online purchases, i prefer merchants that accept PayPal. but sometimes, i have no choice...there are still a lot of merchants that do not accept PayPal (amazon, for one).  in this case, i make sure that the site is really secure and is a reputable one.

one indication that a site is secure is that the web address begins with https instead of just http.  ofcourse that alone does not assure anyone that everything is 100% safe.  you should still take other precautions.

we've become a victim of cc identity theft once. it was a US based cc and they were the ones who called us up for several unusual charges on our card. they were quick to act on the matter and we didnt have to do anything on our part.

basta they asked if we made those purchases etc... when we said no, they immediately cancelled the cards and sent us new ones. no hassle at all. sana ganito rin sa manila.

whenever we go abroad and intend to use our cc, we also call the cc companies and advise us of our travel destinations and dates.

and when we plan on making a big-ticket purchase, we also call ahead and notify the cc companies.

when we used to get paper statements, i made sure that they were shredded before thrown out.

I've been using my CCs extensively both here and abroad for the longest time but after our Europe trip last year, Citibank called me to inform me that they were going to change my CC because they received an alert from Visa that my CC might have been compromised during the trip. Buti na lang hanggang dun lang ang na-experience ko.

BTW, every time I go out of the country I inform the bank. Most probably that might have helped detect any attempt to hack my CC.

naku that's really dangerous. it happens nga at napaka rampant niyan sa mga bars, restaurants. kaya sundan niyo ng tingin ang mga cards niyo pag ginagamit niyo.

yung mga waiters nga daw binabayaran every card na ma swipe nila sa mga duplicating machine to get all the info sa  card mo.

if something is unsual sa billing report agad para ma i credit back at ma file ng fraud yung card mo. tapos they will replace your card naman and new card number. so blocked na hindi na magagamit ulit yung card na nacompromise.

I am a cc user for more than 5 years, so far, wala naman problema re: hacking.. i use cc for local purchases and for payment of hotel abroad.. ok naman..

dun sa mga na-charge ng di ginamit ang card, you can demand for the charges slip signed by you.. yung pinipirmahan natin after purchase..yun kasi ang evidence ng cc company na we have legitimate usage of the card.. pag wala ang original signed, it cannot be used as competent evidence.

my Amex got hacked about 2 months ago. i was charged for more than $300 for a ticket to Eric Clapton's concert in Los Angeles. I was in Switzerland when the charge was made. ang mahirap na part was the ticket was bought online daw. i filed a dispute, and within a week, the charges were reversed. Dunno how Amex proved that it was an unauthorized charge, but I'm glad they did :)

This year, my HSBC CC was used to purchase tickets amounting to Php24,000 via CebuPac.  I filed a dispute with HSBC and the amount was removed from my bill after 2 months, including the finance charges incurred and they cut my existing CC, and replaced it with a new one - without a fee.

Last year naman, my BPI CC was used to purchase stuff from Amazon.com, I used to buy stuff from Amazon pero during that time wala naman ako binili, so nagulat ako bakit may ganun sa bill ko.  I filed a dispute, okay naman naprocess din nila, though hindi nila nireplace yung card ko, and I was told na if I want to replace my card due to this incident, I need to pay a replacement fee.

^ grabe naman BPI.  its for their own good na rin yung pag=replace ng cc, tapos may fee pa?! terrible!

imagine that your cc information is out there with a thief. kung ako yan - cancel my card pronto!  >:(
