Lymphoma
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:24:18 pm »
i hope there are doctors here who can help.

i have an elongated lump swelling on the right side of my neck and another lump near my vaginal opening. i researched lymphoma symptoms and it said that one of the symptoms are swellings on the neck, armpit, and/or groin.

i know na pwedeng wala lang to, kaso it's been over a month na. i read some other general symptoms pero wala naman ako nun. sa anong type of doctor ba ko dapat magpa-checkup? kasi syempre hindi naman sa oncologist, super OA na yun di ba.

What is lymphoma?
Lymphoma is a kind of malignant tumor originating from lymph node or other lymph organizations; currently there are nearly 70 pathological types, and it is mainly divided into the two categories: Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

What are the causes of lymphoma?
1. Physical causes: the onset of lymphoma is related to irradiation absorption, large dose of irradiation urge the occurrence of human’s lymphoma;

2. Chemical causes: chemical carcinogen, like pesticide, hair dye and so on;

3. Immunity factor: immunity hypofunction, like AIDS, organ transplantation, rheumatoid arthritis and so on;

4. Hereditary factor: the occurrence of malignant tumors has obvious trend of family gathering, for example, brothers or sisters can successively or simultaneously suffer from malignant lymphoma;

5. Virus causes: viral infection, like HTLV, HIV, EB, etc.

Besides, long term acid body constitution is the well known cause for lymph canceration.

High risky group of lymphoma
According to concerned statistics, there is one new lymphoma case emerge every 9 minutes, in which the proportion of young adults between 20-40 years old is increasing. This is because lymph tissue of young adults are in active stage, the high sensitive of lymph tissue makes them easily become high risky group of lymphoma.

What are the clinical manifestations of lymphoma?
1. Getting fever without causes. Body temperature keeps among 38-40 ℃ for several days, after treatment, the condition shall be improved but often reoccur afterwards;

2. Lymph node enlargement. Lymph node enlargement usually occurs at the positions of neck, underneath geny or ear, sometimes may spreads to armpit or fold inguen; lymph node may develop from the size of soybean to that of jujube without pain;

3. Systemic symptoms: skin itchy, emaciation, night sweat, lassitude, anaemia.

What are conventional methods for diagnosing lymphoma?
1. Radioactive examination;
2. Bone marrow examination;
3. Lower extremity lymphography;
4. CT scan.

What are the treatment methods for lymphoma?
1. Surgery: the common surgeries are for gastrointestinal tract lymphoma, malignant lymphoma of genitourinary system, malignant lymphoma of spleen, and so on;

2. Chemotherapy: chemotherapy drugs can kill tumor cells that grow quickly and is the main method for treating lymphoma;

3. Radiotherapy: it apply high energy rays to irradiate tumor cells to achieve the purpose of killing tumor cells;

4. TCM: it can improve the overall immune defend function and alleviate certain side effects caused by chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomit and so on.

Experts of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou point out that the treatment of lymphoma can not just rely on local treatment or a certain therapy, instead, it should combine surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, TCM and other multi-disciplinary therapies together as per patients’ specific condition so that achiever the best therapeutic effect.

Nursing of lymphoma
1. Encourage patients to actively cooperate with and receive treatments to enhance the confidence of fighting disease;

2. Enhance nutrition supply, eat more easily digested food rich in high protein, vitamins and improve immunity;

3. Suitably do some exercise and improve the physical constitution; when fever or other obvious symptoms caused by tumor invading other organ emerge, get some rest to prevent body consumption and protect the organism;

4. Keep skin clean and swab the body with warm water, especially protect the skin of radiotherapy exposed area to prevent the stimulus of sun solarization, antiseptics, soap imposed to the skin.

Hi!

I am currently undergoing a series of tests to determine what kind of lymphoma I have. Working diagnosis is Hodgkins.

Anong chemo ginamit sayo? How were the side effects? Tolerable naman? During my workup kasi I had a pain specialist on-board

Thank you!

Hi sis meimei. You can go first to a physician or your family doctor. They will advise you what to do next. I believe that you take this seriously, don't wait for 1 more week sis, wala naman mawawala kung magiging precautious ka. Don't be scared to go to the doctor. My mom in law was diagnose with lymphoma cancer stage IV, I guess it was too late kasi hindi nya agad napansin yung symptoms, it started with a painless lump on the neck and shoulder. Nagpa check up sya nung inuubo na tsaka lagnat, pati sakit ng tyan(spleen). They opt not to chemo anymore, instead they went to organic doctor and consume a strict healthy lifestyle. She's doing good after 3 months.

Totoo kaya yung hair dye ang nag cacause? because my MIL is regularly using hair dye.

Late 2010, I was diagnosed with Diffused Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (Stage 2) via incisional biopsy in St. Luke's and excisional biopsy in Chinese Gen ( yup I had it done twice to confirm the findings ) Then, I had 6 sessions of chemos on 2011. No more surgery nor radiation after the chemos. By grace of our loving God, I'm still alive. :)

My oncologist has clinics both in St. Luke's and Delos Santos. We decided that my 1st chemo be done in St. Luke's (for precautionary measures despite expensive cost), then succeeding ones were done in Delos Santos to save on cost (somehow) under the same oncologist. In addition to the usual chemo meds (CHOP), an additional chemo Rituximab (very expensive one specifically for lymphoma) were infused in every session.

Please note sisses that I DID not experience any listed clinical symptoms of lymphoma except for fatigue and the lump which got enlarged in fast time. After the completion of chemo sessions and getting cleared via PETCTScan, there were no maintenance meds given to me except for vitamin C (stronger immunity) and verapamil (by my cardio due to palpitations). So, I tried the herbs from Dr. Tan in Ongpin and drink it as my maintenance though not as often as I should kasi medyo mahal din. After few years, I stopped taking na Vit C and verapamil. Also, binawasan ko na rin ang mga canned goods and processed foods (minsan na lang). Most of all, dagdagan natin ang prayers kay God through Mama Mary, Our Lady of Miraculous Medal and Padre Pio.  :)

Hopefully clear yung next pet ct scan nya this Oct 18. Doctor namin si Doc Patdu (IM and Onco) sya. She holds clinics in Asian hospital, OsMun at Muntinlupa medical center. Very nice and supportive si doc.

I know someone who was diagnosed with Hodgekin's Lymphoma. However, hindi niya nakumpleto ang sessions because she got pregnant. Malandi kasi. Kasal na siya pero nabuntis ng iba. Does anyone of you know if may magiging effect yun sa baby? Or may kilala ba kayong same situation at healthy baby ang lumabas?

Saklap diba.
