Cough During Pregnancy
« on: September 28, 2015, 05:42:24 pm »
I have been suffering from runny nose and cough for two days na and I'm kinda worried that it will affect my baby. Will it not cause miscarriage due to pressure sa stomach/abdomen area each time I cough? This is my first pregnancy so I'm a bit paranoid. :D I'm only 9w on the way and doc already gave me antibiotic and cough syrup.

I just want to know other mom's experience. Thanks

Advise sa akin ng OB: take ascorbic acid 500mg 2x a day and increase oral fluids. For nasal congestion, neozep or decolgen 3x a day. If dry cough, gargle with bactidol 3x a day. if cough with phlegm, take solmux 3x a day.

Thanks for the reply sis.

A cough that early in pregnancy shouldn't have an effect on baby. What you want to avoid is a cough or cold during the latter part of your pregnancy as your lungs are already working harder than normal due to the added weight and pressure from your expanding belly.

If you are close to giving birth, a cough is concerning as it could be passed on your baby. Pertussis in particular is fatal in infants. When I had a cough close to giving birth my OB put me on antibiotics as she wanted it cured well before I gave birth.

hi, ako rin I had cough and colds in my 2nd trim and didn't go to my OB na.  ang sakit sa ribs whenever i cough.  I researched in the web and it said naman na common talaga kasi mas mababa resistensya ng prego.  I just drank plenty of fluids and vit C and took 2 days sick leave.  nawala naman agad.  I told my OB the week after and she just said to increase fluid intake.  so I guess okay lang :)

Hi. I suggest to drink pure kalamansi with honey, depende po sa panlasa nyo na may dinikdik na bawang. Safe and effective.

I had been having cough for almost two weeks now.  I'm already on my 3rd trimester, 35w 5 d.  My next OB visit will be on my 36th week so I never asked for prescription as I thought it's not big thing to worry about. But after bumping into this thread I got worried especially with pertussis.  I need to do something with this.

^parang may nabasa din ako about pertussis / whooping cough sa theasianparent.com yata.  dapat yata kumuha ng injection for it while pregnant, kasi baby is too young para injection na yun kaya hindi pa siya mabibigyan ng immunity agad paglabas niya. di ko lang sure kung meron dito sa philippines. ask mo na si OB sis para mapabilis yung paggaling mo :D

3x na ko nagka cough, i'm 28 wks now. Nung una dinouble up ko lang vit C ko hindi ko pa kasi alam nun na pregnant ako, siguro i was 6-7 wks pregnant that time. Mga almost 3 wks akong may ubo nun. Then after a month nagkaron ulit, that was worse than the first one, pinrescriban ako ng antibiotic ng OB ko (co-amoxiclav). After 7 days of antibiotic, nawala naman. Then the most recent was 2 wks ago, nagstart ng sore throat hanggang sa nagka phelgm. Antibiotic ulit ako for 7 days. Before i even finished the meds, nag die down na ang ubo ko. I also took fresh calamansi + salt shots lalo na kung very sore pa yung throat ko.

Hi mommy! I read your post regarding cough and colds during pregnancy. I?m on my first pregnancy. I also have PCOS and right now I?m on my 14th week. May cough ako, itchy throat din. My OB put me on antibiotic for 7 days.. I was relieved from your post in a way na mas mahirap mag ka cough and colds during later part ng pregnancy. By the way does your OB told you about it? Thanks in advance

I've been sick for two weeks and I was feeling awful. I didn't take any medicine, just traditional cures, and everything was ok. Stress and bad emotions influence more the baby's health. You should relax and don't think about it, because the more you think about it the more nervous you are. As for me, a great way to relax is reading parenting and pregnancy articles on mommyhood101.com. This is also very informative and will help you in the future. Have a great time being a mommy and be healthy.
