Stylewise JumpsuitsFact: The Valentine’s madness is approaching faster than a meteor in a disaster movie, and so is the impending traffic that always manages to thicken the plot. If there ever was a time to shop for a new outfit, trust me, it’s this weekend or never!

But here’s a thought before you pull those tried-and-tested frocks off the rack. Instead of breaking out the swingy hemlines and slinky silhouettes, why not take the plunge into a jumpsuit?

I know, I know—it’s Valentine’s Day, when every girl wants to look and feel like a princess. And yes, even I wholeheartedly admit that sometimes all I want to wear is a beautiful, sigh-inducing dress (for the rest of my life!).

But we live in a brave new world now, ladies. It’s certainly a far cry from the ‘50s, when Stepford-wife style was the epitome of date wear, or the ‘80s, when career women resorted to bulky, mannish clothes to keep up with the big boys. Today, we can we have our cake and eat it, too—or, to put it more aptly, wear the pants and still look absolutely womanly.

Besides, there’s one key element that jumpsuits and dresses have in common, which is why a certified frock fanatic like myself wouldn’t mind jumping ship once in a while. Simply put, they’re both one-piece wonders! Save for a few accessories, a jumpsuit requires next-to-no styling, since, like a dress, it’s an all-in-one outfit. Never thought about it like that, did you?

There’s other good stuff, too, of course. Like the fact that jumpsuits elongate you everywhere as long as you find the right cut (and there’s one for every shape). Or the fact that they follow the exact recipe for sultry-yet-classy dressing (something bared, something sheathed). Or the fact that you won’t have to worry about flashing your undies on a windy February evening! Oh, and one more thing—it takes a confident woman who is comfortable in her style to don a jumpsuit, and if you’re that woman, you can be sure no one else will be wearing the same thing on your special night out.

In other words, donning a jumpsuit gives you all the same benefits of a fabulous dress, added to the perks of not being a wallflower. Given, one-pieces are a little trickier to manage when you visit the restroom—but hey, we all suffer sometimes for great fashion.

If you need a little more convincing, flip through the gallery below; these 10 stellar examples should sail you straight through V-Day (and every cocktail party after it). To paraphrase Barney Stinson, jumpsuit up! You won’t regret it.
