With every new year comes a fresh start and all sorts of resolutions–whether it's to read more, work out often, or start saving money. But most times, people forget that the start of a new year is also a great opportunity to leave any fashion mishaps in the past and start with a clean slate, filled with all sorts of new pieces, trends, and looks!
Here, must-do style resolutions for every month this year:
Declutter.
Start the year right by getting rid of any shoes, clothes, bags, and other pieces in your closet that you haven't worn in two years! You need to learn to let go of the things you don't use anymore, not just to make way for new pieces, but also so that you'll always be able to see and remember your cool, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Organize.
Once you've gotten rid of the pieces that no longer fit or fall under your personal style, it's now time to make life easier for you and make killer outfits happen by organizing your closet to suit your needs! Also, make an active effort to keep your space and pieces fixed and organized at all times.
Set a budget.
Does your shopping get out of hand at times? Make sure to set a budget for the year and stick to it, strictly. This way, you'll have to think about every purchase and only get things that you truly like and will wear.
Consider quality vs. quantity.
Now it's time to learn how to buy things that you really want instead of buying things simply because they were on sale. At the same time, it's good to start investing in pieces that may be a little more pricey, but will actually last in your closet for years to come.
Master the basics.
Make sure to stock your closet with the classic staples. This will make building looks and your overall wardrobe a lot easier and way more stylish. Plus, these pieces will look good and be in style regardless of the decade.
Know your signature style.
Before venturing on to trends and different ensembles, make sure to be familiar with your signature style and go-to looks. Being familiar with pieces and outfits you like and are comfortable with is the best way to know whether a trend or look is for you.
Enjoy accessorizing.
Don't be afraid to play around with accessories! Doing so is the best way to change up your looks and update your outfits without having to break the bank. Make sure to stock up on pieces that are bold, versatile, fun, and suited for your personal style.
Take fashion risks.
Look for inspiration from your favorite celebrities, magazines, and bloggers and don't be afraid to try a certain trend or style that's a little bolder than what you're used to! Just remember that the important thing when it comes to sporting trends is to keep things in moderation and stay true to your personal style at all times.
Have fun with color.
Sticking to neutrals is great, but it's a lot more fun to play around with different colors and hues! Instantly inject more life into your look by adding different colors through statement pieces or accessories. Make sure to incorporate at least one bright or bold-colored piece into your outfit daily.
Prints, prints, prints!
Challenge yourself and add printed pieces into your daily ensembles. Go ahead and even try sporting a print-on-print look this month! Looking for tips? Try pairing pieces in similar tones or varying sizes of prints for looks that will surely match!
Try something you never thought you would.
Go a step further than trying out new trends and try a piece or a whole look you would never normally don! Whether it's a choker or a head-to-toe colored look, it's always good to get out of your comfort zone–you never know, you might just discover something that you like and looks totally good on you.
Think of the future.
After managing to complete all the earlier resolutions, it's now time to think of the future and make sure you always shop and build your closet with a purpose. Before purchasing anything, make sure that whatever you buy fits into your current wardrobe and style, as well as how you imagine your look to be in the next year or even five years down the road.
