1. Look in the mirror.
Check if your makeup is on point. Does it look natural or does it appear like you have 10 million layers of foundation? If you prefer to go bare-faced, then go ahead and use the hashtags #IWokeUpLikeThis and #NoFilter.

2. Find your good side.
As you check your reflection in the mirror, see which angle projects better. The foolproof way would be to tilt your head a bit sideways and raise your camera slightly above your line of vision. This technique defines your features and slims down your face.

3. Inspect the lighting.
In photography, lighting is everything and that concept is also applicable to selfies. Natural lighting is best to diffuse flaws and highlight your best features.

4. Do a background check.
Many failed selfies were posted on the internet because people neglected to check their background for random embarrassing stuff (underwear, messy surroundings, or a trash can). Also, interesting backdrops like a painting or a beautiful scenery adds points to a perfect selfie.

5. Embrace filters.
There is no shame in using filters because they make your pictures look better! There are many free photo-editing apps available both in Google Play and Apple's App Store. Want to tweak the lighting and colors of our pictures? We personally like the VSCO app. Experiment with the different filters and settings to come up with the most pleasant snap.

6. Relax and loosen up.
Girl, it's just a selfie, and not a magazine cover. Don't be too hard on yourself because selfies are all about fun! If you're not confident, it's going to show. A word of caution: Please do not abuse the selfie card. Posting more than three versions of your face in one day can get a little too much.
