Some people believe in using moisturizer, while some don't. Regardless of which side you're on, we present a more neutral perspective: You don't always need to use it. But before you squint at your screen in doubt, let us explain—or better yet, allow board-certified dermatologist Dr. Cindy Bae to do so.
In a video by Harper's Bazaar, The New York-based doctor reacted to a comment implying that moisturizer is a must after using a hyaluronic acid serum, saying that it isn't necessarily true. According to her, it's okay to skip moisturizer when you don't need it, such as when you're in a humid environment that's already full of moisture.
"You don't always have to use a moisturizer, especially if you have oily-prone skin or if you've just used an HA serum that helps moisturize," Dr. Cindy explains. After all, she adds, hyaluronic acid is considered a moisturizer, because it helps attract water to the skin and prevent dehydration.
