1If you were a teen in the ’90s, you probably remember Lip Smackers, the ultimate source of glossy lips. Owning a tube was like a rite of passage for teen girls before transitioning to lipstick. The iconic lip balm came in many flavors, and some of the most iconic include Dr. Pepper (inspired by the soda of the same name), mango (a tangy tube that gives a hint of orange)and Gotta Date (a balm that gives the very ’90s reddish brown tint on the pout).

When its manufacturer, Bonne Bell, announced that it will be closing its US manufacturing and distribution facility earlier this week, girls who grew up with tiny tubes of glossiness mourned through social media by posting tweets and Instagram posts of their fave tubes.

However, the brand also released an update saying that Markwins International has acquired Bonne Bell, and will continue to distribute Lip Smackers in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Whew!

Now that that’s settled, here are a few legit reasons why you should never skip the lip balm.

 1. Chapped lips are never sexy. Dry puckers have the tendency to crack, exposing your lips to dirt and bacteria. Plus, this dryness can also cause pain and swelling to your kissers.

2. Supple lips make you look younger. Plus, most tubes come with SPF, the all-important component that keeps your skin young and protected from the aging rays of the sun.

3. Balm acts a lipstick primer and base. Moisturized kissers allow your lippie’s pigment to stay put for a longer period of time.
