1. Not wearing one
We know it seems like an extra step in your makeup routine, but primers act like a glue that helps your makeup last for long hours. You won't need to worry about your eye shadow and eyeliner moving around your face when you dab eye primer prior to applying eye makeup. Face primers, on the other hand, will prevent your foundation from melting, keep shine at bay, and blur your pores to oblivion.

2. Not using the right type for your skin
Not all primers are created equal. Just like skincare products like foundation, there are primers tailor-made for your skin type. If you're worried about a shiny T-zone and large pores, nab ones with silicone to keep every oily-skin girl problem under control. Radiance-boosting primers will help normal to dry skin appear healthy and supple.

3. Putting it before makeup application only
Thinking of touching up your face? Before you reach for your favorite face powder, try tapping primer on top of your makeup instead. This technique prevents caking and instantly kills a slick complexion.

4. Using a brush to apply it
It's a great idea to use a makeup brush to apply primer on hard-to-reach areas, but using clean fingers will improve blood circulation, making your skin look healthier. Plus, the warmth of your hands will help your skin absorb the product faster.
