Hyperpigmentation refers to the patches of skin that appear darker than your natural skin toneand it's normal to have them, especially in your 30s. According to dermatologist and CEO and Founder of Luminisce Dra. Kristina Reyes-Bagani, these dark spots are usually caused by long-term exposure to the sun. "Even if you're not at [the beach all the time], there's still cumulative [sun] damage to the skin that makes us form more pigment," explains the skin expert. Other causes could also be hormonal imbalance and improper use of skin-lightening products.
