Decluttering is a daunting task, but there are ways to make the whole process less painful. We came up with six easy tips you can try to clear out the unnecessary items on your vanity table:
Decluttering can be overwhelming, especially when you've got piles of products you've accumulated over the years. You can start sorting your items by type to make the process easier. For example, you can check your inventory of blushes and then move on to lipsticks until you've covered your whole collection.
Determine the items you really need.
Go through your skincare and makeup products and divide them into three piles:
- Keep: products you use every day; holy-grail items
- Maybe: products that you occasionally use; items that you can give away to friends or to charity
- Ditch: expired makeup; items you haven't touched in a year
Use makeup organizers.
Keep your makeup and skincare items on display and save space with organizers. Having your items properly segregated will save you time whenever you get ready. Plus, when you display them prettily, you'll always know what products you already have, which means no double purchases!
Have a separate container for your backup items.
If stocking up on your faves is non-negotiable, we highly suggest that you designate a cabinet or chest of drawers as storage for your backup items. This way, your vanity will only have your everyday essentials, aka the tabletop won't be cluttered. Just make sure you don't forget about your backups!
Take note of expiration dates.
We hate to break it to you, but skincare and makeup products don't last forever. These have expiration dates and using them past their prime may harm your skin. You can refer to this quick guide while clearing your collection:
Tip: You can add a little sticker on your products and write the month when you opened them so you'll have an idea when they'll go bad.
Don't be pressured to do it all in one go. Remember that decluttering is a long process, not a one-day event. It's also a lifestyle change that will teach you to shop wisely and buy only what you need.
