Heads up, ladies. You might just be the next Darna! After much social media speculation on who will be taking over the coveted superhero role next, Star Cinema, announced on Wednesday, May 1, that it will be holding open auditions for the part instead. This means equal opportunity for new faces and famous Internet bets—Nadine Lustre, Maja Salvador, and Julia Barretto—alike.
"Who is the next Darna? The search is on!" its Instagram post read along with a specific criteria to be met by aspring hopefuls:
- 20 to 26 years old
- At least 5'5"
- With acting experience
- Fluent in Tagalog
- Physically fit
Auditions will run from May 4 to 5 starting 10 a.m. at the ABS-CBN audience entrance.
The call for auditions comes months after Liza Soberano, who was originally set to star in the film, backed out over a reported finger injury. We also remember Erik Matti, Darna's supposed slated director, having dropped off the project October of last year due to creative differences. He was then replaced by Jerrold Tarrog shortly after.
With the number of speed bumps that the highly-publicized film has encountered so far, fingers crossed they finally secure a deserving Darna to push through with production soon!
