Leyte Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez told PEP.ph that she’s planning to run for the same position in the 2013 elections so that she can continue the projects she started this term.

"There’s still so much that needs to be done," she said at the launch of her new endorsement, Avon Genics, on June 5 at the Peninsula Manila Hotel. "I'm happy to be in a position to be able to do more than just say 'kawawa naman' or 'nakakalungkot naman 'yon'. At least, I'm in a position to actually do something and make a difference."

Although rumors say Lucy will run unopposed come 2013, the TV host-politician recognizes that the voters will have the final say.

"I feel that the election is there for the people to have a choice. So anybody can run, but the people have to choose. For as long as the people choose you, then maybe you're there to really sit. But when the people say na tama na, you also have to know how to step down. I feel that it's really part of our democracy. We have to embrace that mayroon talaga tayong eleksyon."

Lucy initially had no plans of becoming a politician, and it was her husband, actor Richard Gomez, who wanted to run as the representative of the 4th district of Leyte in the 2010 elections. When Richard was barred from doing so due to lack of residency, Lucy decided to run in her husband's stead. Her work as congresswoman has included the building of classrooms in her district--she even traded an appearance in 2011 movie Panday 2 for four classrooms.
