Yesterday, January 7, 2020, Solenn Heussaff and Nico Bolzico's baby girl, Thylane Katana, marked her first week of life. The actress gave birth via C-section on New Year's Day, January 1, 2020.
Celebrating this milestone, Nico posted a new video to clarify what many people are curious to know since he and Solenn announced their daughter's arrival: how to pronounce her name.
In his new show that the new dad has dubbed, "Learning With Bolz," Nico started off by telling how to say famous people's names that are also difficult to pronounce. His list included Solenn's surname, Heussaff. He only found recently the H is silent.
"And lastly, and the one we almost know how to pronounce is Thylane Katana ('Tee-la-neh Ka-ta-na')," the new dad said.
Solenn chimed in to correct her husband. "It's Thylane Katana ('Tee-lahn Ka-ta-na'), not 'Tee-la-neh,'" she said.
Nico tried to argue that he read his daughter's name like so because of its Spanish origin, but he was quickly shot down by his wife.
"No!" Solenn firmly said. "Thylane Katana ('Tee-lahn Ka-ta-na'). 'Tee-lahn,'" the new mom stressed."It's not 'Tai-leyn' and it's not 'Tee-la-neh.' Thylane ('Tee-lahn'),' she clarified.
According to Baby Name Wizard, Thylane is of French origin, which means "wild orchid." Diving deeper into its etymology, sources say it's spelled initially as "Thi-lân" from the Vietnamese "thùy," which means "let down, suspend, hang" and "lan," which means "orchid."
One famous personality who bears the same name is Thylane Blondeau, a French model, actress, entrepreneur, and fashion designer. Solenn and Nico have yet to confirm if they named their daughter after her.
Katana, on the other hand, is more popularly associated with its Japanese origin. A katana is a curved, single-edged sword. As a name, Nameberry lists its meaning as "honorable" or "sword." It's also an Old Persian name for girls, and it means "beautiful" or "fresh," according to Quranic Names.
