It seems that Heart Evangelista and her parents, Rey and Cecile Ongpauco, are not on the best of terms right now.

Rey and Cecile are apparently against their daughter’s relationship with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who is 15 years her senior at 43. In a press conference they held at their home on March 19, they said that Chiz would frequently shout at Heart and would force her to disobey them.

"Ang tao pag bastos sa magulang... lalo na 'yung anak ko, balang-araw, kawawa naman 'yun, baka ano mangyari do'n,” Rey was quoted as saying on PEP.ph. "Hindi ako nagagandahan sa ugali niya (When a person is rude to one’s parents... especially my child, I pity her, something might happen to her. I’m not impressed with his attitude.)."

"When he first visited our house, the very first time, he was drunk. He smelled of alcohol,” Cecile added.

The couple also voiced a plea for the senator to stay away from their daughter.

"We are now appealing to Mr. Escudero to leave our daughter alone for a cooling-off period," Cecile said. They also reiterated that their revelation has nothing to do with Chiz’s senatorial bid for the upcoming elections.

However, Heart had defended her actions, saying that she’s at the right age to decide for herself and that she is happy in Chiz’s company. I’m just embarrassed for my boyfriend, Chiz, and his family, who has been nothing but nice to me. They’re so kind to me, but suddenly there are these attacks toward him),” she had said in an interview aired on GMA-7’s 24 Oras.

Chiz also expressed his desire to distance himself from Heart’s conflict with her parents, preferring to view this episode as a trial in their relationship.

I’m a bit involved, as much as possible, I don’t want to involve myself in a misunderstanding between a child and her parents. My relationship with Heart is going strong and I’m treating this as a challenge for us, which I’m sure we’ll overcome.)."
