News about the rift between Heart Evangelista and her parents, Rey and Cecile Ongpauco, may have started to die down, but their issue is still far from over. In fact, the 28-year-old actress has revealed that she hasn’t talked to her parents since they first held a press conference to announce that they disapprove of their daughters’ romance with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. However, Heart still believes that fighting for Chiz, whom she says had already done everything to appease her parents, would still be “worth it” despite the many controversies that hounded their relationship from the very start.

“It’s a decision din naman kasi (It’s also a decision),” she was quoted as saying in an interview on PEP.ph. “If you decide that you want to be with this person through the good and bad… I’ve learned so much and I’ve went through so much with relationships because I gave up, kasi nahirapan ako sa sitwasyon (because I found the situation too difficult)... But you know, there’ll come a person in your life that, you know, I’ll try very hard because I want this to work.”

Heart also remarked that she will never regret choosing Chiz’s side, even if her parents turn out to be correct in the end.

Kung mali, mali (If it turns out wrong, then it's wrong),” she said. “If we end up being alone, then we’ll end up being alone. That’s life, you know… You may go against the world but if it’s not for you, it’s not for you. I’ve been down this road before and there’s no certainty. I don’t want to be in an obligation that just because it happened, kailangan mong panindigan (you’ll have to stand by it.). Hindi naman dapat ganoon 'yun (It's not supposed to be that way.). You’re with someone and you fight for someone because you believe that this person is good for you and you’re good for that person too.”

The actress also said that she still feels bad for the negative reactions her parents have been incurring from the public despite knowing that they may never deem any man worthy of her.

“Well, to be honest with you, it confuses me a lot that parang nakinig sila sa akin, nasabi ko ang point ko (I'm confused because they listened to me, I was able to say my point),” she said. “But when things are being said about my mom, I still get hurt for her. That’s why I wish it didn’t happen anymore. Because I love her and my dad, I love them very much.”
