The latest "Star Wars" sequel, "Deadpool", and "Pitch Perfect 2" were multiple winners at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards last Saturday night, April 9.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" picked up three trophies, including Movie of the Year and a Best Breakthrough Performance for Daisy Ridley, while the "Pitch Perfect" sequel and "Deadpool" were double winners, picking up prizes for Best Comedic Performance (Ryan Reynolds for "Deadpool") and Best Ensemble ("Pitch Perfect 2").
There were also big victories for Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron, who claimed the night's Best Male and Female Performance awards, while Will Smith took home the Generation Award, and Melissa McCarthy was presented with the Comedic Genius Award.
Smith, who was joined at the ceremony by his sons Jaden and Trey, picked up his top honour from Halle Berry, and said, "This is absolutely beautiful. I released my first record when I was 17. I'm 47-years-old now... I'm dedicated to being a light in this world."
Meanwhile, Theron dedicated her Best Female Performance trophy to her "visionary" director of "Mad Max: Fury Road" George Miller and her adopted son Jackson, who "put a smile on my face every day he was with me while I made this film", and her "own little Furiosa, my daughter August".
