kuh_ledesma.jpgSinger Kuh Ledesma wants concerts by international acts like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber regulated, ABS-CBNNews.com reports. In an interview on morning show Umagang Kay Ganda, she emphasized how her appeal would benefit local artists and producers.

"Sa akin naman, protection lang for the local industry. Kasi 'pag Valentine's, napakaraming show," she is quoted as saying. "Ire-regulate lang natin na malayo sa Valentine's ang mga palabas ng foreign artists para mabigyan ng opportunity and success 'yung mga producers and mga artists lalo na 'yung maliliit na artista. (For me, this is just protection for the local industry. There are a lot of concerts during Valentine's. Let's just try and regulate (the concert dates), so that there are no conflicts and to give lesser-known artists opportunities for success.)" She also added that Filipino artists are taxpayers while foreign acts are not.

Meanwhile, foreign concert promoter Renen De Guia opposed her move, saying promoters can't choose the dates for the foreign acts' concerts. "Kung ano 'yung ibinigay sa 'yong dates, 'yun kasi 'yung window eh. Kaya kunin mo na, baka mapunta pa sa iba (The dates given to producers are the only windows available. So we take them before others get them)," he said. Moreover, he pointed out that protection for local acts is already in place: foreign acts are required to pay equity fees, association of OPM fees, and higher amusement tax than local ones.
