Devina DeDiva, a former assistant teacher from India, has apologized for her negative remarks toward Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
Manila Bulletin reported on October 7 that Devina has issued her apology through the biography of a Twitter account believed to be hers.
“Im so sorry @meganbata and to all Filipinos out there. Sorry. I don’t have a Twitter account so I made one just to show my apology,” the statement read.
As of this writing, Devina's Twitter account has been suspended.
Devina sparked outrage among Filipinos after she slammed Megan's victory--the first for the Philippines in Miss World history--on Facebook on September 29, saying that it was a "joke" and branding Filipinos as "maids."
As screenshots of these comments circulated online, Devina became a top local trending topic on October 1. Facebook posts expressing Filipinos' ire toward her also became viral, ABS-CBNNews.com reported.
Manila Bulletin reports that Devina's Facebook account eventually got suspended, and she was allegedly terminated from her teaching job at a Singapore-based school, which was incidentally run by Filipino supervisors.
