International singing sensation Charice has finally opened up about her sexuality, admitting on national TV that she is a lesbian.
Charice broke her silence in an interview with The Buzz host Boy Abunda on June 2. She first confirmed her rift with her mom, Raquel Pempengco, adding that they are now trying to understand each other’s differences. She also admitted that she has moved out of the home she shared with her mother and her brother, Carl. The singer revealed that she is currently living in Laguna with a family whom she has known since she was a child.
When TV host Boy Abunda finally asked her about her sexuality, her answer was very straightforward.
“Opo, tomboy po ako,” she admitted. “Hindi ko po alam kung ano ang problema nun. Kasi para po sa akin, wala pong problema 'yun (Yes, I'm a lesbian. I don't see any problem with that because for me, it's not an issue),” she was quoted as saying in an article on PEP.ph.
She also admitted that she has been in a few lesbian relationships, adding that Alyssa Quijano, the X Factor Philippines contestant who is currently being linked to her, is her “inspiration.”
"Isa po siya sa pinagkukunan ko po ng lakas ngayon (She's one of my sources of strength right now.). She’s a very special person,” she said.
Still, she apologized to her family and her fans whom she thought might be hurt about her decision to come out.“Sorry Mommy, Carl... pero ito ako. Proud ako sa sarili ko. Mahal ko ang sarili ko kaya ko po ginagawa ito,” she said. "Sa mga fans ko... alam ko marami sa inyo disappointed, alam ko nga ilan sa inyo siguro tatalikuran na ako. Sorry. Alam ninyo na sincere akong tao, from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. Naiintindihan ko (Sorry, Mommy, Carl... but this is me. I'm proud of myself. I love myself, which is why I'm doing this. To my fans... I know a lot of you will be disappointed, I know that a lot of you will probably stop supporting me. Sorry. You know that I'm a sincere person, from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry. I understand.).”
