Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray confirmed in an episode of Tonight With Boy Abunda (TBWA) last night that she and Clint Bondad have called it quits. They’ve been together for six years.
"Hindi na po," the 25-year-old beauty queen said when asked by Tito Boy if they are still together.
Turns out, she's been single for quite some time now, as their relationship was already on the rocks even before the Miss Universe pageant held in December 2018.
"Actually we were having some problems even before the pageant," Catriona said. "But, me, I'm a very private person kasi, e, and even before we left for Thailand, we were not on speaking terms so much."
Nevertheless, Clint flew to Thailand to watch the coronation night.
Catriona also shared her personal struggles during these hard times. "It was really hard going through the competition with that happening all at the same time, but I had to keep reminding myself this is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she shared. "I need to give my best, why am I here, and I wanna represent the Philippines well, so it was a struggle."
When asked why they decided to call it quits, she said: "It’s when you’re together for so long and you start off from a very young age. You grow—whether that be in your personal, or in your career, or whatever—sometimes you just kind of… you outgrow each other, in a way."
Meanwhile, Clint finally broke his silence regarding the issue through an Instagram post dated February 23.
"You are still the most beautiful woman that I have ever met," he captioned his post. "I wish you the very best on your path, wherever it will carry you...Truly."
He adds: "This is certainly not what we both wanted, but most certainly what we both need at this point of our life."
