Ariella Arida, a 24-year-old BS Chemistry graduate from Laguna, beat 49 other beauty queen hopefuls at the Bb. Pilipinas pageant held on April 14 to be the country’s representative to this year’s Miss Universe competition.

PEP.ph reports that people will have high expectations from Ariella, given the impressive showing of the Philippines’ past three representatives to the prestigious pageant. Maria Venus Raj placed fifth in 2010, Shamcey Supsup finished fourth in 2011, and Janine Tugonon was first runner-up in 2012.

The other winners of the night are Bb. Pilipinas-International Bea Rose Santiago, Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism Joanna Cindy Miranda, and Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational Mutya Johanna Datul. Rounding up the top 15 are Imelda Schweighart, Grace Yann Apuad, Charmaine Elima, former Starstruck contestant Rhea Nakpil, Amanda Navasero, Ellore Punzalan, Camille Nazar, Merry Joyce Respicio, model-actress Pia Wurtzbach, and Christopher de Leon’s daughter Mariel de Leon.
