The Iran hostage drama Argo took home the much-coveted Best Picture trophy at the 85th Academy Awards held on February 24, redeeming director and co-producer Ben Affleck, who was not nominated in the Best Director category. Argo was also awarded the golden statuette for the Best in Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay categories.

Life of Pi, the fantasy adventure about a shipwrecked boy and a tiger, took a total of four statuettes for Original Score, Visual Effects, Cinematography, as well as the Best Director award for Ang Lee.

British actor Daniel Day-Lewis made history that night by being the first man to win three Oscars for Best Actor, collecting the statuette for his performance as American President Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln, which also won the Production Design award.

22-year-old actress Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated for the Best Actress award in 2011 for her performance in Winter’s Bone, won the statuette this time around for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Anne Hathaway won the much-deserved Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables, while Austrian actor Christoph Waltz took home the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Django Unchained. Les Miserables also got the Best in Make-up and Hairstyling and Best in Sound Mixing awards, while Django Unchained won Quentin Tarantino a trophy for Best Original Screenplay.

Anna Karenina took home the Oscar for Costume Design, while the James Bond flick Skyfall won Best Original Song and shared the Best in Sound Editing award with Zero Dark Thirty.

Amour won the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film, Searching for Sugarman won Best Documentary Feature, and Brave took home the Best Animated Feature Film award.

Paperman won for Best Animated Short Film, Curfew took home the Live Action Short Film plume, and Inocente won the Best Documentary Short award.
