Nikki and JC's common friends played matchmakers for the two. Whenever Nikki or JC would write a letter to the other, their friends would take on the task of hand-delivering the correspondences. Through the letters, love blossomed between Nikki and JC, and they eventually became a couple.
Time came when JC decided to ask for Nikki's hand in marriage. He and Nikki were on the phone at 2 a.m. when he just said, "Pakasal tayo." Nikki didn't think that it was an actual proposal. "I thought it was just an expression, or a conversation about the future. In short, I replied with 'sige.' A few weeks later, he requested for some documents," she says.
To make his proposal even more obvious, JC decided to surprise Nikki by starting with their preparations. She narrates, "One morning, he fetched me and said he was going to bring me to work. Suddenly, he drove past my office, and said we were going somewhere else. We actually went to the municipal office to initiate the preparations for our wedding."
Nikki and JC opted for a modernized Victorian theme for their wedding. The couple's various wedding details, which featured a mix of classic and contemporary details, came in their chosen pink and black motif.
Damask details and lush floral arrangements complimented the couple's theme. The bride was very particular with the wedding elements, and so she made it a point to handpick all the details for the big day. Moreover, she took on several do-it-yourself projects, such as the table numbers, place cards, and napkin rings.
The couple had two years to prepare for their wedding, but Nikki admits that there were some minor hiccups. Still, the bride chose not to dwell on the little things. "There really is no perfect wedding no matter how well you plan for it. Insist on the details you want to incorporate in your wedding and be hands-on, so that at the end of the day, despite the things that can go wrong, you can tell yourself that you've given your all," she says.
