Melanie and Jhun belonged to different departments at their office. They hardly got to talk to each other, until they both attended a seminar in Makati. During the break, the two started conversing, and exchanged numbers. While they started texting each other and going out on dates after the seminar, Melanie and Jhun both played it cool. Eventually, the communication fizzled out.
Then out of the blue, Jhun called up Melanie to tell her that he was about to board a plane for Qatar, where he was meant to work. Ironically, Melanie and Jhun communicated more frequently when Jhun was already in another country. Soon, the two finally became a couple.
During one of Jhun's visits to the Philippines, he and Melanie planned a trip to Palawan so he could meet Melanie's parents for the first time. Little did Melanie know that Jhun had also planned to propose during the trip.
Jhun had arranged for a boat ride to an island, where they were to have dinner. Unfortunately, it rained that day, and the couple got into a fight that night. Jhun made up with Melanie by asking her to listen to a song on his iPod--and he whipped out the ring on cue.
Melanie and Jhun's classic wedding was a celebration that they enjoyed with the people around them. "Our wedding was simple. We just wanted a laid-back wedding full of joy and love, [and we wanted to spend the day] with our close friends and loved ones," shares the bride.
The couple opted for a honeysuckle and silver motif. To add a personal touch to their wedding, the couple took on simple DIY projects. Together with their friends, they made kissing bells for the reception. Melanie and Jhun also crafted place cards, which matched their license plate-inspired invitations. The bride tells other couples to start early if they want to do details for their wedding. Melanie narrates, "There were many DIY projects in my mind that I had wanted to incorporate into our wedding, but we had no more time."
While the couple's wedding featured details that they love, the two didn't forget to prepare for their marriage as well. "My advice to brides is to [remember] that preparing for your wedding is like having a sneak peak of your marriage. You have to do it together with your partner, and you have to enjoy every minute of it," Melanie says.
