Karen and Mike were neighbors back when they were still in high school, and Karen was friends with Mike's sister. When Mike's family moved out, Karen and Mike lost contact with each other.
On the 18th birthday of Mike's sister, Karen and Mike's paths crossed again. At that time, texting was just starting to catch on. So Karen texted the only cell phone number that she knew--the one that Mike's family had. At that time, Mike was the one holding the phone so he replied to Karen's message. From then on, they began texting each other constantly. They became a couple after a few weeks, and have been together since then.
After 11 years of being together as a couple, Mike hatched a plan to propose to Karen. He invited her for dinner, but Karen had a meeting then, so she asked Mike to wait for her until she finished. When Karen met up with him, Karen noticed that Mike was in a bad mood. They drove to The Fort, but then left soon after for Eastwood, which they left again--until finally, Karen found themselves heading to a restaurant Antipolo.
After eating, Mike told Karen that they were celebrating his birthday in advance. Karen said she hadn't gotten him a gift, Mike told her that he wanted something and asked Karen to close her eyes. While her eyes were closed, Karen felt him slipping a ring on her right ring finger. Happy but amused, she opened her eyes and told Mike, "Maling hand!" So he transferred the ring to her left hand and finally popped the question. Karen, of course, said yes.
Karen and Mike's wedding was a classic affair. The couple gave their raspberry and silver wedding a personal touch by incorporating some simple projects, like designing and printing the invitations themselves.
Though there weren't any special performances during Karen and Mike's reception, the couple's wedding wasn't any less meaningful and memorable. Karen made an audio-visual presentation, which was played at the entrance of their reception venue. And while Karen thought she was the only one who made a video, Mike also surprised her with a video that featured all her friends giving their best wishes for the couple.
After years of being around each other, first as neighbors, then as boyfriend and girlfriend, Mike and Karen's simple ceremony and reception marked the start of another new phase of their life together, as husband and wife.
