Kai and Raef met when they were still in college at the University of the Philippines (UP). They were both members of the UP Pep Squad, and by constantly training together, the two became friends. Eventually, Kai and Raef's friendship blossomed into romance--and before they knew it, they were anticipating their sixth year together.
Both sports enthusiasts, Kai and Raef would also watch sports matches together. One weekend, Raef invited Kai to Resorts World Manila to watch the screening of a boxing match. On their way to watch the fight, however, Kai found out that they were really going to a three-day vacation to Boracay. Raef had already informed Kai's boss about her leave, and he had also asked Kai's sisters to pack clothes for her.
At Shangri-La Boracay, where the couple stayed, Raef found the perfect moment to propose to Kai--and she said yes.
Kai and Raef had always wanted a destination wedding, but they were intimidated by the expenses that an out-of-town celebration would entail. At the early stage of their wedding preparations, they booked their church and reception venue in Manila. However, the allure of having a beach celebration didn't go away--and so five months before their wedding, they did some research and decided to have their wedding in Batangas instead.
The two knew that their wedding must be a relaxed affair, and so they saw to it that their wedding details had that carefree vibe. Kai and Raef opted for a beachfront reception, which featured handcrafted decor. The couple also made their wedding warm by enlisting the help of their family and friends for their DIY projects.
Kai and Raef's simple wedding program exuded that same laid-back feel that the decor had. To foster an inviting atmosphere, they asked friends to take turns hosting the program. Moreover, the groom also prepared a surprise song number for the bride.
The couple worked as a team as they prepared for their wedding, and they learned valuable things along the way. Shares the bride, "If you think your dream wedding is too expensive to pull off, think of ways to still make it possible. There are many suppliers out there who can deliver impressive results without being too pricey. You can also do a lot of DIY projects." With their undaunted spirits, Kai and Raef surprised themselves with the wedding they had envisioned.
