Jhen and Mel were classmates in college, but they hardly talked to each other. It wasn't until three years later that the two started hanging out. Eventually, their friendship developed, and later on blossomed into a romantic relationship.
On Jhen and Mel's third year together, Mel hatched a plan for his proposal. He coaxed Jhen to visit his newly renovated condo unit--and in his room, Jhen found red petals strewn on the bed. Mel then knelt down, popped the question, and presented Jhen with a ring. He also held two balloons: one that was emblazoned with "Yes," and another with "No." Without hesitation, Jhen picked the balloon that said "Yes."
Jhen and Mel had a whimsical wedding as their reception venue was decorated with dreamy details. The bride--who's really fond of Hello Kitty--initially wanted her favorite character to inspire the theme of the event. However, she realized that her groom might not be too comfortable with the concept, and so the couple reached a compromise. Jhen shares, "Of course I have to consider what Mel likes, too, and so I decided to just incorporate Hello Kitty into the little details."
The couple personalized their wedding by adding their personalities into various elements. Their venue featured feathers and crystals, which perfectly channeled the whimsy that Jhen and Mel wanted in their wedding.
Jhen and Mel made sure that they had fun as they prepared for their big day. Says the bride, "Don't try to imitate others, but instead, represent the two of you as honestly and genuinely as possible. Don't stress yourself too much, as it will just make you an anxious bride. Delegate tasks if you have friends who are willing to help."
