Dei and Peejay were introduced by a common friend, and a year later, they got to know each other better through their church group. They would often hang out at coffee shops, and eventually, romance blossomed between the two friends.
One time, the couple headed to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) in Eastwood, but their usual seats were occupied. Dei and Peejay then decided to have dinner first, and after which, they went to another CBTL branch. At the coffee shop, Peejay gave a heartfelt speech about taking their relationship to the next level, and he popped the question. The simple proposal got Dei's approval. "I never liked an upstaging proposal, and I'm glad he did not do that," she shares.
Dei and Peejay wanted their wedding to be simple, since they knew that the marriage after the festivities was far more important. They decided on a laid-back coffee-themed affair, which they celebrated with their closest friends and family.
Instead of splurging on their big day, Dei and Peejay filled their wedding with various DIY projects, including their guestbook, invitations, and even the décor. Says the bride, "You can make something beautiful out of something inexpensive." And while the couple did a handful of crafts, Dei tells other couples, "Put a limit on DIY projects. Know when to stop."
Aside from preparing for their wedding, the couple knew that they had to get ready for marriage as well. The bride shares a tip for other couples. "At the end of the day, it's the marriage and not the wedding that matters. Go to counseling at church before the wedding day," she says.
