Love StoryAlthough April and Santino's families have been close for three generations now, the two only met a few years back when April went to the United States to care for her pregnant sister. Santino has been residing in San Diego for several years already.
April and Santino became close when April's sister had Santino's father as her OB/GYN. April and her sister stayed with Santino’s parents as they waited for the baby’s arrival. While they were there, Santino would also visit frequently. "I had gotten close with him and his family as we started to talk more. Before I left for the Philippines, he expressed how he felt about me through a handwritten letter and a playlist," the bride shares.
Since then, Santino flew frequently to the Philippines to visit April. On their anniversary, he took April to Pearl Farm Beach Resort. At the resort, Santino handed April a thick book, and asked her to read every letter of the alphabet out loud. When she got to W, she found the words "Will you," printed on the page. After a couple more pages, she got to letter Y and the words, "please, say yes." She glanced over at him and saw him down on one knee, expecting an answer. Although she was still teary-eyed, she gave him her sweet yes.
Wedding PreparationsApril and Santino had a romantic beach wedding in the beautiful island of Davao. Elements in turquoise and tangerine set a refreshing summer air to the romantic occasion attended by their closest family and friends.
To add their personal touch to the wedding, the couple incorporated DIY projects. April shares, "The invitations were designed by Santino’s sister. Santino and I bound and glued the invitations before we sent them out to our guests in the States. In addition, Santino drew, created, and customized other details such as the cake toppers and the guestbook."
Some of the couple’s invited guests flew in from the US. The guests witnessed Filipino wedding traditions, which the couple added to the event.
A beautiful fireworks display marked the start of the after-party. April tells other couples, "Just enjoy the wedding planning. Be hands-on with everything. That way, every detail of your wedding will be very personal and meaningful to both of you."
